Pensacola, Florida – December 20, 2021 – The Grover and Sara McKenzie Family Foundation, Inc. donates $10,000 to the Chester Children’s Chorus raising our campaign total to $30,000.
In February 2020 the Grover and Sara McKenzie Family Foundation, Inc. announced a $20,000, 2-year fundraising campaign for the Math Practice Program of the Chester Children’s Chorus. The Math Practice Program provides Chester students with 1-on-1 sessions with Swarthmore College students and classroom lessons designed to help close the gap on state standards and reinforce already mastered math concepts.
The Chester Children’s Chorus is in its 27th year of inspiring youth with the love of music, the power of performance and the attainment of educational success. The Grover and Sara McKenzie Family Foundation, Inc. makes this donation in memory of their family matriarch Mrs. Arcissa Thompson.
Arcissa Gibbs Thompson was born in Camden, Delaware on February 8, 1916. In the early 1920’s her family relocated to the Chester, PA area. In 1964 Arcissa and her husband, Sylvester Thompson, purchased a vacant commercial building at 2401 West Third Street in Chester. They created a neighborhood market known as Thompson’s Market. She became a Ward Leader, representing the political and social interest of her community. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, did volunteer work with the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. All of her children and many other family members graduated from Chester High School.
The Grover and Sara McKenzie Family Foundation, Inc. gives a special acknowledgement to members of the Chester High School Class of 1970 for their partnership in this successful campaign.
The Grover and Sara McKenzie Family Foundation, Inc. is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donor-supported organization. Programs and services are made possible through contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
